Default "I killed those people. That's what I can be."

I must've seen TDK a good 15 times by now. I'm confused by ONE thing. Who are these "5 dead, two of them cops" that Gordon and Batman discuss at the end of the film? I count 2 dead at the hand of TF: Wertz and Maroni's driver. He knocked out Ramirez and let Sal go with no confirmation of whether he died in the crash. Somebody help? Are they counting the officer Joker shot inside Gotham General? Did Maroni die in the crash? That's still only 4!

If they count those two - and add Wertz - then that makes THREE cops, not two, doesn't it? This small thing has been bugging me since the film's opening knight (couldn't help myself).

it was a online interview with nolan or 1 of the producers done right after heath died,at most we might get to see a cell at arkham with a shadowed figure standing in it but not the face,in my young uneducated opinion.

It's more like 20 today. And, yeah, Nolan's not only turned me from a lifelong Spider-Man-lover to a Batman fanatic with BBegins, but after TDK, yes, a fanboy as well. Sue me. Call me what you want. But, for the love of Satan, at least answer the posed question.

... and his comics rule, too.

Great question! I will admit this drives me crazy every damn time I watch this movie...which I'm sure is way more than 15 times. I always try to think through the whole movie who was killed. Never thought of the cops in the hospital. And is he talking about everyone that was killed by the hands of the Joker or Two-Face? Or Both? The list in my mind I always thought of was maybe the two cops at 8th and Orchard, the Batman imitator the Joker videotapes, Rachel and Commisioner Loab...but then that leaves Wertz and I guess the cops at the hospital. So yeah, I have no idea who the hell he's talking about.

Batman raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as the Joker.
